MARKHA VALLEY TREK

10-Days / 9-Nights Adventure

Day 1

Arrival in Leh. Upon arrival at Leh airport, you will be greeted by our representative and transferred to the hotel. Check in for a day of complete rest. Welcome tea and coffee will be served by the hotel. After lunch, visit the Leh Market, Leh Palace, and Shanti Stupa. Overnight stay at a hotel in Leh.

Day 4

Yurutse to Skiu. Follow the trail from Yurutse along the mountainside, crossing a small valley before the steep zigzag path to the Ganda La pass (4380m). A long descent towards Shingo follows, and after 2 hours, you'll reach the Markha Valley and shortly after, the village of Skiu. Overnight in tents.

Day 7

Thachungtse to Nimaling. Today, we make the drive from Nubra to Pangong via the challenging Wari La pass. This route is not recommended for inexperienced drivers. Overnight at camp.

Day 10

Departure. Transfer to Leh airport for your departure flight.

Day 2

Leh to Spituk to Zingchen.
After breakfast, we will depart from Leh and drive approximately 7 km to reach Spituk Bridge on the Indus River behind Spituk Monastery. The trek starts with a flat and desolate plain along the Indus, leading into a narrower valley with stunning views of the Indus Gorge, and into the isolated Zingchen Gorge lined with willows. Overnight in camp at the charming village of Zingchen.

Day 5

Skiu to Markha. The trek continues along the right bank of the Markha River with lush vegetation, then crossing to the right bank, trekking through barren plains to Chaluk. Further on, following the left bank and another river crossing, we climb towards Markha Village. The campsite is beyond the village, near the river. Overnight in tents.

Day 8

Nimaling to Shang Sumdo. Begin the day trekking towards the Kongmaru La pass (5100m). The path leads through narrow gorges. At the pass's summit, enjoy views of the Ladakh Range and villages of the Indus Valley. Descend from the pass towards Shang. Overnight in tents.

Day 3

Zingchen to Yurutse. Leaving Zingchen, the trail to Rumbak is straightforward, leading through the Hemis National Park, home to rare wildlife such as the snow leopard, Bharal, marmot, and wolf. The valley widens upon arriving at Rumbak. Camp at Yurutse, situated below the Gandala Pass. Overnight in camp.

Day 6

Markha to Thachungtse. After breakfast, begin trekking to Thachungtse via Hankar village. Overnight in tents.

Day 9

Shang Sumdo to Hemis to Leh
Follow the stream down to Hemis Monastery, one of the largest and richest monasteries in Ladakh. After visiting Hemis, drive back to Leh, with stops to visit Thiksey and Shey along the way. Shey Palace, built in 1634 AD by King Deldan Namgyal, houses a three-story high copper-gilt statue of Lord Buddha. Thiksey Monastery, resembling the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet, and belonging to the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism, was built in the 15th century. Hemis Monastery, built in the 16th century by King Singge Namgyal and Lama Staktsang Raspa, is among Ladakh's largest. Overnight at a hotel in Leh.
